how we treat

TREATMENTS & OTHER SERVICES

Physiotherapists have a wide range of skills to suit your particular problems.  Treatment directed at addressing the contributing factors that result in injury is most efficient at resolving the issues that keep you away from your chosen activity.

STABILITY TRAINING

This technology is useful for identifying movement faults and then helping retrain for specific actions, whether it is running, a golf swing or a swimming stroke.  Any muscle weakness and poor movement pattern that is identified can then be worked on with exercises and therefore decreasing abnormal loads that will contribute to injury.

Despite the most common form of analysis involves running, other types of movement analysis is also possible, such as a golf swing, cycling positioning and technique (with use of an Ergo-trainer) and a multitude of everyday, non-sporting activity.

REHABILITATION

Physiotherapists are skilled in advice and education for a variety of muscular and joint problems. Once the basics for improving stability have been accomplished, you need to be fit and strong enough to return to your chosen sport or activity.  We have a fully equipped gym adjacent to the clinic for this purpose.  We also work with sports trainers who can help that process further by tailor made training for you dependant on your individual requirements.

VIDEO ANALYSIS

This technology is useful for identifying movement faults and then helping  retrain for specific actions, whether it is running, a golf swing or a swimming stroke.  Any muscle weakness and poor movement pattern that is identified can then be worked on with exercises and therefore decreasing abnormal loads that will contribute to injury.

Despite the most common form of analysis involves running, other types of movement analysis is also possible, such as a golf swing, cycling positioning and technique (with use of an Ergo-trainer) and a multitude of everyday, non-sporting activity.

MANUAL THERAPY

Manipulation and mobilisation of joints used to relieve stiffness and pain.

Soft tissue muscle techniques (a form of massage) help to reduce pain, assist flexibility, posture and function, when used as part of a diverse treatment programme.

RUNNING & WALKING (GAIT) RETRAINING

With the use of Video Analysis, we can help retrain and restore the movement patterns that relate to normal walking and running. Most sports involve running to some degree and if your running form is not optimal, it can lead to common problems of overuse to tendons and joints.  There are many ways to run, but some styles may lead to problems.  Assessing and recognising movement faults can help with knee pain and Achilles tendon problems as common running injuries and many other less common ones.

ORTHIOTIC PRESCRIPTION

An orthotic is a device that goes into your sports shoe (or your work shoes) which will help control foot posture via mechanical and neural mechanisms.  That means that not only will it change forces going through the leg, but it will also provide a type of retraining tool by its interaction with your foot.

We can provide simple and cost effective off-the-shelf orthotic devices which can be moulded and modified to suit the individual based on dynamic and static foot posture. This can be a useful adjunct to muscle retraining and movement re-education in activities such as running.

SPORTS MASSAGE

Massage comes under various forms of application some of which come under conventional physiotherapy techniques. The techniques used allow for gentle or deep soft tissue release as required.

Massage helps improve circulation and can help reduce post-exercise soreness in some cases. It can also help flexibility, releases tight muscles and therefore enhances overall sports performance and daily activity.

WORK STATION ANALYSIS & REEDUCATION

In today’s world, most of us use computers to varying degrees.  Worse still, with work pressures we don’t get away from the computer.  Even worse still! The use of laptops is becoming more widespread.  If it wasn’t bad enough with normal computers, laptop usage puts the individual user at risk of injury and this is further enhanced by the fact that education on laptop use is often limited.

It is a myth that there is one ideal posture to counteract the effects of the above.  What is important is to be diverse in how we position ourselves during the working day. Strategies and education on how to achieve this can help you stay comfortable at work.

testimonials

Arturo helped me recover from meniscus knee surgery. 4 months after the surgery I was able to compete in the London Triathlon and improve upon my time by over 10 minutes. Without his guidance and support I may not have even made it to the starting line. Thanks for your hard work!
I have worked with Arturo, undertaking research with him at Brunel University, where Arturo is a Physiotherapy Lecturer. I have every confidence in Arturo, both academically and professionally
Arturo is a highly skilled physio whose expert knowledge is well beyond standard. Indeed Arturo would be my first port of call for advice on any muscular / skeletal issue - his treatment regimes are always effective in my experience .However if he feels other medical advice / input is necessary he will say so
Arturo Lawson provides a very high quality physiotherapy assessment, treatment and a personalised exercise plan. His clinical skills are further strengthened by his academic expertise and University lecturer appointment.
I have tried a few Physio's over the last 20 years in Sydney and in London and Arturo ranks as the best. He listens, is consultative, personable, explains things well and produces results with expert no nonsense advice.
Arturo is a great physio: knows his stuff, is enthusiastic about his work, explains well his diagnosis and treatment options, and is interesting to talk to while he goes about doing his work on you.
Arturo Lawson is an expert clinician who delivers the highest quality physiotherapy management. He combines extensive clinical experience, with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology and the evidence base, to provide effective individualised treatment of musculoskeletal problems and sports injuries.
I would be happy to recommend Arturo who has helped me through a couple of injuries to myself and to my son. Has a good way, wexplains things clearly, doesn't dress it up i.e. tells it as he sees it and is pragmatic.
I cannot recommend Arturo highly enough. As my Physio I would rather not have to see him, but needs must! In which case, I trust his judgement implicitly and always come away from our sessions feeling well informed, motivated and 100% positive. With Arturo I put my aches and pains in the right hands.
Arturo is an experienced and knowledgeable professional in his field. He makes good connections with his clients and his positive approach and attitude adds a lot to the treatment outcomes. He also displays a very pragmatic approach to his treatment plans something that inspires a lot of confidence in him. He is also well respected by my colleagues who also go to him for treatment.
